June is National Safety Month

NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH

June is National Safety Month!  This gives YOU an opportunity to make a difference in your home, work, and community by reinforcing the importance of safety.

Identifying risks around your home or improving safety standards at home and in your community protects everyone. Whether increasing first aid and emergency awareness through drills, or providing water safety tips for summer recreation, you’re making strides towards safety!

Practicing safety in every situation reduces accidents and injuries. Creating a safe environment reduces stress and anxiety by providing a sense of security.  A person’s quality of life increases when we protect ourselves from danger.

Listed below are some ways to get involved with #NationalSafetyMonth

  • Repair items as needed (i.e., that broken deck board, the tire that’s leaking air, etc.).
  • Hold drills at home to help children know what to do in the event of a fire, tornado, medical event or any type of disaster.
  • Volunteer to participate in community emergency preparedness events.
  • Put together a first aid kit.
  • Take a CPR class (currently offered by the Fire Department – call to register for either the June 24th or September 23rd Heartsaver course or the December 16th BLS Provider course).
  • Teach someone to change a tire properly and safely.
  • Learn about proper storage and disposal of medications. A disposal container is located at Byron City Hall outside the Police Department – call 815-234-5500 for details!
  • Take a defensive driving course.
  • Learn how to identify fall hazards in a home.
  • Visit the National Safety Councilwebsite for tips and resources and use #NationalSafetyMonth to share on social media.                     https://www.nsc.org/workplace/national-safety-month?
