At 8:59 hrs. on 11/18/2002 the Byron Fire Department responded to an accident. Upon arrival they found a flatbed truck carrying a load of trusses which struck the side of a viaduct and shifted the load into the path of the oncoming car which struck the load of lumber. The driver of the car was airlifted to a Rockford hospital, the passenger in the car and the truck driver were transported by ambulance to the hospital.
